Groundbreaking filmmakers are the subject of a new book written by Gerard Peary, one of the Founding Fathers of the Boston Society of Film Critics and the author of nine books on cinema.

Titled “Mavericks,” the book is published by the University Press of Kentucky and will be released on January 24. Peary is a film critic, cinema studies professor, and documentarian. His first documentary, “For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism,” came out in 2009, followed by “Archie’s Betty” in 2015 and “The Rabbi Goes West” in 2019.

Subtitled “Interviews with the World’s Iconoclast Filmmakers,” Peary’s new book features the voices of a wide-ranging group of filmmakers, including Samira Makhmalbaf, Roberta Findlay, Howard Alk, Ousmane Sembéne, and John Waters. Click here for more information on “Mavericks.”
